Caprices

Caprices is een fysieke interpretatie van de muziek van Salvatore Sciarrino. Zijn bijzondere klanklandschap vindt een tegenhanger in de krachtige bewegingstaal die Alexander Vantournhout als danser en acrobaat heeft ontwikkeld. Even nauwgezet als de fuga’s van Bach, overstijgt Vantournhouts choreografie de grenzen tussen dans en circus. In Caprices gaat hij op zoek naar gevaar en virtuositeit, tijdloosheid en vervreemding en schakelt hij tussen uitbundigheid en minimalisme. De choreografie mondt uit in iets onberekenbaar, net als de muziek zelf.

… The shrill sound of a violin fills the space. Vantournhout pulls his single wheel on stage. We witness an exploration between the dancer and his partner: the single wheel. They repel and attract each other to a soundscape at times penetrating. One time subdued and suggestive, sometimes aggressive, but the dancer and the wheel always deliver a virtuosic and existential fight over physical vulnerability and emotional loneliness. — Ture Stevens, Etcetera
